OUR STORY

In 2009, ballet dancer and community choreographer Rebecca Swisher founded Tippy Toe Dance Studio, drawing on her extensive experience in classical ballet, music, and theater choreography. Rebecca's innovative approach combines her love for these art forms with a desire to provide students with artistic platforms to express themselves and tell their unique stories.

Rebecca’s journey began in her living room, where she taught dance to children of family and friends. The demand for her expertise grew rapidly, transforming these small, informal lessons into a full-time business. This growth reignited Rebecca's passion for dance and nurturing young artists, leading to the establishment of Tippy Toe Dance Studio. The studio blends disciplined ballet training with the rich storytelling of musical theater, creating a unique and dynamic learning environment.

Tippy Toe Dance Studio is more than just a place to learn dance; it’s a nurturing community where every child's passion for dance can flourish. Rebecca’s belief that everyone should be welcomed to dance fosters an environment where dancers feel vulnerable, respected, and safe, allowing them to create captivating performances.

Our commitment to inclusivity and community outreach extends throughout Salem. Tippy Toe dancers participate in initiatives such as the KGW Toy Drive, One Billion Rising, Awesome 3000, TEDxSalem, and the Center for Hope and Safety, making a positive impact beyond the studio walls. We also prioritize accessibility, offering scholarships to over one-third of our dancers and maintaining an unspoken policy of never turning a child away due to financial barriers.

In addition to her role at the studio, Rebecca channels her passion for artistic immersion in education as the Special Program Director for Young Voyagers Montessori School of Arts and Little Friends Montessori, the schools partnered with Tippy Toe. This position allows her to seamlessly integrate dance and artistic expression into educational settings, fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts among young students.
