Original Productions

In between various volunteering events, Tippy Toe is hard at work on their main focus – original productions that transform the well-known ballet format into approachable, thought-provoking narratives performed by the students.

Written and choreographed by Swisher, these shows are nothing like the end-of-year recital you might expect from a local studio. The stories encompass sophisticated topics such as existentialism, relationships, and grief, yet impart a sense of hope and optimism that audience members of all ages and backgrounds fall in love with. From the preschoolers and first-time dancers to the professional-level young adult dancers, the students work together on executing raw emotions and intense movements three times a year.

Junior Choreographer Program

After taking part in the creative process of a Tippy Toe production, many students expressed a desire to choreograph their own show, and a few years ago Swisher gave them a way to do it. Maintaining the goal of helping students develop their passion, Swisher created a Junior Choreographer program, unique to Tippy Toe.

All students study the art of choreography from a young age at the studio, from small class projects and eventually collaborating with their instructor on performances. Each winter, one student is given the full opportunity to write, cast, choreograph and develop a completely original work of art using the studio dancers. Swisher and staff guide the young artists through the ins and outs of rehearsal direction, staging, costuming, lighting, and more, a process that begins nearly a year in advance.
